Olathea Creek Vineyard & Winery is the heart and dream of Julia and Bryce Flaherty, a husband-and-wife team born and raised in the Quad Cities. Both graduates of Bettendorf High School, Julia and Bryce combined their local roots, shared passion for wine, and love of community to create something truly special in Olathea Creek.
Their winemaking journey began with a simple Christmas gift — a starter kit that sparked Julia’s curiosity and creativity. What started as an experiment in their kitchen soon became a shared passion, as Julia and Bryce explored new blends using local grapes, fruits, and even flowers. They found joy in crafting wines that could be enjoyed with family and friends, turning simple gatherings into memorable moments.
Eager to grow their knowledge, they pursued formal education in wine production and vineyard management while honing their craft at home. After five years of learning, tasting, and dreaming, they decided to take the leap — transforming their hobby into a family business.
At Olathea Creek Vineyard & Winery, every bottle is crafted with care, every guest is treated like a friend, and every visit is a celebration of local flavor, family, and connection.
The name “Olathea Creek Vineyard & Winery” comes from the history of the land. The vineyard was once the campsite for the Sauk and Fox tribes. The term "olethe" in Fox means beautiful. Beautiful is the perfect adjective to describe the property. The property features a picturesque creek and provides a quiet, country setting along the majestic Mississippi River. The name also pays homage to the former Olathea Golf Course which operated on the site for 30 years.

established 2019
With the help of family and friends, Julia and Bryce hand-planted the first two acres of their vineyard in May 2019. Today, the vineyard features two carefully selected cold-climate varieties: Petite Pearl and L’Acadie Blanc.
Approximately 80% of the vines are Petite Pearl, a red grape developed in Minnesota by viticulturist Tom Plocher and first released commercially in 2010. The remaining 20% are L’Acadie Blanc, a white grape originating in Canada and only recently introduced in the United States.
VINEYARD
Both varieties are still relatively new to the Midwest, and Olathea Creek is proud to be among the few Iowa wineries crafting wine from these exciting, emerging grapes.

Olathea Creek Vineyard & Winery's first wine production started in the Fall of 2020. We are excited to share with you our love of local grapes and fruit. We have a variety of wines available ranging from dry to sweet. We are confident there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

We offer multiple location options on site such as a beautiful gazebo overlooking the vineyard, an arbor wedding in the vines, or under the chandelier on our white bridge. With space for an outdoor reception located near the tasting room, your party is sure to be a hit.
PRIVATE PARTIES & SMALL EVENTS
Our tasting room has a private area specifically to celebrate events with smaller guest sizes. It is the perfect place to host bridal showers, birthday parties, retirement parties, or any other special occasion.
